Trapezius

A large superficial muscle spanning the neck, shoulders and upper back.

The trapezius has upper, middle and lower fibres and contributes to movement and control of the scapula as well as neck movement.

Attachments

Occipital region, cervical/thoracic spine to clavicle and scapular structures (simplified learning summary).

Actions

Scapular elevation, retraction and upward rotation; contributes to neck movement.
